What can affect internet speed?
If your internet speeds aren’t what you were expecting, here’s some things
that may be causing issues you weren’t aware of.
Connection type
When connecting to your modem via cable or Wi-Fi, cable will always give you faster and more stable results.
Device age
Using an older computer or phone means the processor may not be up to the task and is slowing things down.
A virus
Slow internet speeds could be the sign of a virus lurking on your device chewing up bandwidth. A quick virus check could give your connection a boost.
Your modem or router
Modem or router age and location can affect your internet speeds. The newer the equipment and the closer they are to devices the faster your connection will be.
Network traffic
The more devices and users on the internet, the slower the speed. It’s not something that can be avoided, just something to keep in mind.
Ethernet cable types
Cat5 ethernet cables support 100Mbps plans (Typical Evening Speed 98/17), while Cat6 cables support 1Gbps plan (Typical Evening Speed 811/42).
